Personal Project Proposal

Strategy:

Goal:  The goal of my personal project is to create a collaborative blog that contains the voices and experiences of college age Christians.  Since I believe that God has a specific path set for each one of us, I believe that we all have a personal story, or testimony, full of lessons learned, revelations, and character gained.  I would like to offer young Christians a place to share their story and inspire others while learning from their peers as well.

What already exists:  Collaborative blogging is becoming more popular as people come together and share information on various topics.  I have seen only a few collaborative blogs focused on the Gospel, specifically college age Christians.  There are several informational sites on how to make a collaborative blog, how to write a blog, and how to stay organized in the process.  These sites have been very helpful.  I have also learned a lot about collaborative blogs through the class blog.

Who I am trying to reach:  The primary audience will be college age individuals as they learn about themselves and walk their own paths.  These individuals will most likely share the same faith, but I hope to gain a well rounded audience full of people with different perspectives and beliefs as well.

Why I am passionate?  I have been using a blog to share my personal experiences for the past two years and I really enjoy it as a creative outlet, a reflection tool and a journal.  Eventually a few of my friends started to blog as well.  I think it would be great for us to combine our blogs and provide information from a wide range of perspectives over several different topics.  I would also really like for people to read these Christian blogs written by their peers, so they can get a sense of what being a Christian is really about.

How this will impact the world:  If this project impacts at least one person, I’ll call it a success.  Hopefully, not that I don’t have faith that it won’t, it will be a way to encourage others through our own testimonies, show people how God is involved in our lives and help us to stay focused on the path that He has for us.  It will also break stereotypes and show people how we live differently.

Story:

1. Reflect on our life lessons.

The authors of this blog will be able to use this space  as a journal as well as a blog.  We will use this blog to express what God has been teaching us week by week.  Each blog post will give us an opportunity to think deeper into our experiences throughout the week and realize what God is doing/teaching us.

2. Show others what being a Christian is really about.

Often the term “Christian” carries a negative connotation.  Christians have been stereotyped as being judgmental, boring, rigid, caged, etc.  This group of Christians love God and love people.  We want to share with others what living a life in Christ is actually about, despite the negative image we sometimes carry.

3. Tell our story. Testify!

Acts 4:20 says, “For we cannot but speak of the things we have seen and heard.”  We want to tell other people what Christ has done for us!  And, through this blog we will be able to do this on a weekly basis!  Honestly, we just want to talk about God all the time and be encouraged by others testimonies as well, this will be a good opportunity for us to do that.

4. Build a community.

This blog will allow college age people, most likely Christians, to come together and share about their walk with God.  One of the Church’s main focus is community, and honestly, this is one stereotype that I don’t mind.  We want to make connections with people, form relationships and encourage one another.  This blog space will allow us to teach each other, learn with each other, encourage each other, etc.  The blog itself will serve as a mini community of young Christians who are interested in expressing their faith and experiences within a blog space.  As we publicize our blog, a community will be created by the subscribers, commentors, and readers.  We also want to establish a small community of information sources within our space.

5. Inspire others.

One major way to connect with others is to get personal with them.  We want to inspire others by telling them what God has done in our lives.  At the very least, the authors will be inspired by each other.  I hope and pray that others are inspired as well.  Being a Christian is not about religion, rituals or rules, its about love.  I believe that a life lived through love is truly inspiring even to the non-believer.
